Adult Swim's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Major Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel introduced a completely new animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often characterized by bleakness, this show's earnestness found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."
A President's Endorsement
In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and supported its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about observing this charming family go about their daily lives.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to help comedy break out of its prevailing cynical streak. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially be part of that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to bask in the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
