Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking British fashion designer responsible for a series of unforgettable images worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.

His reputation was built on his architectural shapes and performative fashion, including the pastel suits that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message on social media."

Price's death comes just weeks after he unveiled his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to attend the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in menswear at Stirling Copper and was behind the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He founded his own label in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price designed the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to blend tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in designing sculptural silhouettes made him a "true original," according to the UK's fashion authority.

In the 1990s, he began working on ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as a number of outfits for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in collaboration with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Dramatic Impact: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The fashion world laments the passing to a authentic original whose influence on the visual landscape of music remains profoundly felt.
