Jets Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and is confident the athlete will be OK after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during their latest talk.

“That gives me comfort, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn commented. “His wife and child, they are doing well and he is expected to recover fully.”

It remained unclear when Boyd might be released the hospital, where his condition is described as serious yet stable.

“Still unsure,” he added. “Yet I must mention, from our conversation, he seemed very positive. Furthermore, that’s what gives me comfort, that he feels like that and he’s talking that way.”

New York police issued surveillance images Monday of an individual wanted in the attack on the player. What prompted the attack remains under investigation and police mentioned it’s not clear if Boyd was singled out. No other injuries as confirmed by officials.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday near MSG and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was taken to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, according to authorities. The assailant escaped.

Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “constantly” since the news broke. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a child.

“My initial concern, he has a new baby,” Glenn said. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. That was my main concern.
“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but It is reassuring that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd hasn’t played during the current season, after joining the team, after being placed on injured reserve on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.

Boyd came to New York as a new signing in spring and was expected to be a significant contributor of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a practice session on 2 August and was carted from the field.

Boyd continued to be present throughout the season while working his way back.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn commented. “Certainly, he attends every game. His commitment is total. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He signed with Arizona in 2023 and then joined Houston’s practice squad subsequently. Boyd inked a single-season agreement valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
