LA Battles Record-Breaking High Temperatures Only One Week Following Major Winter Weather.
In the wake of torrential rains that led to inundation across sections of the city, the City of Angels is now grappling with unseasonably warm conditions for this time of year.
All-Time High Temperatures
During the day Friday, the mercury reached 91°F (33°C) in downtown Los Angeles, per data from meteorologists. This easily surpasses the old record for February 27th, which was 88°F (31°C) and was recorded just last year.
"Unusually high temperatures" were highlighted on forecast graphics for the region.
Safety Warnings
Forecasters stated that Friday's conditions posed an "elevated risk for heat illness" for vulnerable populations. Their guidance suggested:
- Keeping well-hydrated.
- Avoiding outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
- Not leaving anyone unattended in a parked vehicle.
An Extreme Shift
This dramatic increase in heat comes on the heels of a massive storm system that battered the area last week. That system delivered high winds, thunderstorms, and significant snowfall to the mountains, leading to mudslide risks for countless residents.

Weekend Outlook
Looking ahead cooler conditions is expected. Temperatures were forecast to decrease to around sixty-one degrees Fahrenheit in downtown LA by Friday night.
Other locales that hit the 90-degree mark were Burbank, Woodland Hills, and Long Beach. Elsewhere, Santa Maria, Oxnard, Camarillo, and Westwood were expected to experience the upper eighties.
For the weekend, downtown Los Angeles can anticipate temperatures in the 80s, with a further cooldown expected for the following week.
