People have assembled across the country to commemorate 24 months since the Hamas-led offensive on 7 October 2023, as discussions advanced in the neighboring country over an end to the war in the Gaza Strip.

The assault led to in excess of 1,200 people killed and 251 others taken back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the uniquely most fatal day for Jews since the Holocaust.

Israel answered by launching a armed campaign in Gaza which has killed more than 67,000 people, according to the area's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its numbers are seen as accurate by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"Our violent adversaries have struck forcefully, but they have not overcome us," Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Tuesday.

He also promised to "accomplish all the goals of the war: the return of all the kidnapped, the removal of the Hamas government and the guarantee that Gaza will no longer pose a danger to Israel".

Memorial Gatherings Across Israel

The government authorities delayed formal memorials until 16 October - after the end of the festive season - but events still were held throughout the country on that day.

A remembrance service for the families of Israeli citizens who died in the Hamas incident was organized in Tel Aviv. Arranged by the families themselves, it was televised throughout Israeli broadcast stations.

Some time earlier, a silent tribute was respected around the country.

Peace Talks in Egypt

Meanwhile, the conflicting parties' delegations met in the North African tourist destination of the negotiation venue for a follow-up session of indirect talks to examine the provisions of the agreement.

A prominent delegate familiar with the discussions said that an late session of mediated discussions commenced at 7 PM local time.

The source said the morning session concluded without significant progress, amid disagreements over the recommended Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas wants to guarantee Israel does not restart fighting after the initial stage of the deal.

He noted that the discussions are "challenging and have not yet produce any major advancement," but noted that facilitators are working hard to close the differences between the two sides.

Key Issues in Discussions

  • An enduring halt to fighting
  • The exchange of the prisoners still detained by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The removal of troops from Gaza
  • Arrangements for assistance provision
  • Future management of the area

Public Feeling

In Tel Aviv's memorial area earlier, young a woman - whose sibling endured the incident on the gathering, where many attendees were killed and many more were abducted by Hamas gunmen - shared: "No place feels like home now and until all the hostages are released none of us will feel safe."

"After we see everybody home again, we can breathe once more. Then we can begin to recover," she concluded.

Outside the prime minister's home in the capital, people congregated to show their support for the loved ones of the captives. Israel reports forty-eight continue in captivity in Gaza, twenty of whom are believed to be alive.

Protester a participant explained: "We need do any agreement needed for the abducted to come back home. But we sincerely need promises that we will be protected."

Opinion polls now regularly indicate that approximately the majority of Israelis prefer the hostilities to end in exchange for the freedom of the captives.

Palestinian Conditions

At the area of Nova festival, mourners assembled to honor the dead.

From there, the noise of Israeli air strikes and explosions could be detected just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where observers reported the intense Israeli attacks persisted.

In the main city, bombardments were reported in the early hours of Tuesday in the western Tal al-Hawa, Rimal and Nasr neighbourhoods and in the east side neighbourhood of Sheikh Radwan, as well Shati refugee camp to the northwestern area.

"Once the evening arrives, the anxiety appears with it," displaced Gaza City resident a local woman, whose 17-year-old son was lost his life by an Israeli bombing previously, explained.

"Me and my three children are afraid of the attacks. Throughout the evening we are resting together, clinging, especially my little child who places his face on me throughout the night."

"Constantly we look at the reports to see the situation. And I'm worried that this ceasefire will not be completed and that the fighting will come back to us."

Humanitarian Emergency

The medical facility in the urban area said it had accepted the corpses of half dozen people by the afternoon, including a trio who died in an Israeli strike in the southern district.

A different healthcare center in the south region of the city said two more victims had been delivered. An individual was lost his life by Israeli soldiers while attempting to get help to the south region, medics reported.
