The President Invites Loved Ones of Injured National Guard Personnel to the Presidential Residence

Former President Trump announced on Sunday that he has asked the family of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the White House.

He mentioned that he contacted her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.

Details on the Tragic Incident

Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.

Vigils across West Virginia have occurred in their honor.

White House Invitation

The commander-in-chief explained he’s discussed a White House visit for the parents of both individuals of the West Virginia Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” the president told reporters. “And likewise with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”

Community Response

Community members came together over the weekend at the high school in West Virginia to remember Sarah.

Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of Trump’s federal initiative to aid policing efforts in Washington DC.

Remembering Sarah Beckstrom

“Sarah was the kind of student that teachers hoped for. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that encouraged people around her,” Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s former high school, stated to the media. “She was kind, considerate and always ready to help others.”

Memorial arrangements for Beckstrom are still being arranged.

Judicial Steps and Government Adjustments

Law enforcement have accused a 29-year-old suspect with one count of homicide and charges of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.

The incident caused the government to suspend asylum applications and temporarily stop granting visas to owners of Afghan passports.

Status of Wolfe

Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, began his service in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, according to the AP.

He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.

The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi stated on the program that she planned to visit his relatives.

Memory of the Fallen Soldier

Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County High in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a military police officer with distinction, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.

“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had fortitude,” Morrisey informed the crowd at the vigil. “Though her life was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
