The Renowned Musician Calls On Support to Get Together for Palestine Song to UK Christmas No 1.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to send a cultural melody to the top of the UK charts. The effort hopes to send support to Gaza's residents while also spotlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
A Chance for Unity and an "Unlikely Coup"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to support Palestinians during the holidays. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“That would be amazing if that happened, yes,” he stated. “I wouldn't be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a category of their own.”
Powerful Theme of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's defiant core message.
“It occupies a very special place for countless listeners,” Barghouti shared. “It’s basically saying that I would prefer a dignified death than exist without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we want to live a life of dignity that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Production History and Contributing Musicians
The song was recorded in the wake of a major charity concert held in late summer. First conceived to be captured during the live event, the rendition was omitted from the lengthy event due to scheduling overruns.
The notable list of performers appearing on Lullaby features a selection of acclaimed names from the industry. All participated in the earlier concert, which reportedly raised a significant sum for charitable causes.
Production and Release
Lullaby was produced by a group of talented individuals. The song features a fusion of the original Arabic with freshly written English words.
The team running the project have emphasized that their goal is to raise as much as possible for a charitable pot. These donations will be distributed to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an non-profit partner.
“There is no a fixed goal,” a figure commented. “We’ll go for the maximum achievable. Of course, the greater the amount, the better. All proceeds are directed out to those in need in Gaza.”
The reality in the territory was characterized as its widespread damage, with a huge proportion of buildings described as in ruins or severely impacted.
“Given that reality, a couple of million doesn’t make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is primarily spreading knowledge of this plight and proving there’s another side to the story.”
The song is launching on Friday. Additionally, a video of the benefit event will be made available for streaming on a digital service from the 19th of December.
