The Two Fatalities Revealed in Brown University Shooting as Law Enforcement Persist in Search for Perpetrator.
Two students who lost their lives in Saturday’s mass shooting on the university campus were honored at the start of the week – amid a widespread hunt for their shooter persisted following the release by local law enforcement of the sole person of interest in the case.
Remembering Ella Cook
Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was described as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, according to the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a service on Sunday.
Her role included vice-president of Brown’s branch of College Republicans of America, the group said. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also posted condolences on social media, saying in part: “Words cannot express. Remembering her loved ones and companions, above all her mom and dad.”
MukhammadAziz Umurzokov
The other deceased individual was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, an Uzbek national in his initial year at the prestigious university, his family confirmed.
The victim's identification was verified by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.
“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. His ambitions were lofty of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and helping people,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a online post.
What Happened
Nine more persons were hurt in Saturday’s attack in the engineering department of Brown’s university in Providence, during the university's examination week.
Law enforcement reported on Sunday evening that a 24-year-old male detained in a police operation at a Hampton Inn about 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was released from custody.
“We have a murderer out there,” declared Peter Neronha, Peter Neronha.
