It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
